Pregnancy and Postpartum. A woman experiences dramatic changes in her body and in her relationships during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. CST effectively addresses the concerns and discomforts rising from these changes.

Touch is vital to the mother’s psychological, physiological and spiritual well being as she adapts to the experience and demands of pregnancy and new motherhood. Studies show that mothers who receive loving touch during their pregnancies are better able to provide loving touch to their newborn infants.

Postpartum CST. The attention that a mother receives during pregnancy is often withdrawn and transferred to the baby after the birth. It is important for the new mother to continue to be nurtured when most of her energy is spent nurturing a new baby. It is beneficial for the whole family when a new mother receives focused, positive attention.

A postpartum treatment focuses on structural realignment of the spine and pelvis and rehabilitation of the muscles overworked or weakened during pregnancy. This facilitates healing, especially for mothers who have had complicated or ceasarean births. New mothers receive instruction on how best to help themselves recover strength and
balance in their bodies.

A woman who has experienced a complicated birth may feel traumatized. She may grieve the loss of the birth experience she had planned for herself. Postpartum Craniosacral therapy helps the new mother process and integrate her birth experience in a way that is physically and emotionally healthy. At the same time, it also addresses the new body discomforts associated with the carrying and care of a newborn infant. It includes instruction in the proper use of body mechanics for these new activities.
