what is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy originates from Osteopathy and is a gentle healing technique involving the whole body, from the smallest cell to the gross muscles and skeletal structure. As we all have energy moving through and around the body, the craniosacral system extends beyond the physical body form to also include the energetic force sometimes referred to as prana or chi.

A craniosacral therapy session involves the therapist placing their hands lightly on key listening posts on the fully clothed patient, and 'tapping into' the craniosacral system. By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages can be eased, the movement of cerebral spinal fluid through the spinal cord optimized, and misaligned bones restored to their proper position.

Craniosacral philosophy maintains that every body has the innate wisdom to heal itself when given the right conditions. In this model, the therapist acts as a facilitator set the stage in a calm, quiet and safe environment and to follow the system to where it needs to go in order to release and rebalance.

Craniosacral Therapy enhances the body’s natural healing processes, and has been effective over a wide spectrum of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
Migraine headaches, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic neck and back pain, motor co-ordination difficulties, stress and tension-related problems, central nervous system disorders, birth trauma, dyslexia, vertigo, pregnancy related pain, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), orthopaedic problems, back and neck pain, chronic fatigue, neurovascular or immune disorders, scoliosis, infantile disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, learning disabilities, fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders. In essence, craniosacral therapy is safe appropriate for just about anyone!
